Title: Caamora news?
Post by: bluepony on Thu, 2007-09-20, 13:41:24
I think I read somewhere on this forum that Clive's Caamora project would be 'seeing the light of day' end of the summer 2007. Apart from the fact that we hardly had anything worth being called 'summer' this year, it will soon be over anyway... and as I know that there are a few 'insiders' on this forum, I thought I'd just ask...

So - does anyone have some more information on Caamora? Like for example what will 'She' sound like - is it a rock opera? Or can we expect the first ever Clive Nolan musical? (Hey, why not, Andrew Lloyd Webber is doing it all the time!) Is there any gossip as to which other artists will be involved in the 'She' album? (Names! Can we get names? I heard Bob Catley was supposed to sing on it. Just a rumour though...)

A lot of answers can be found on their website:

http://caamora.net/

And yes, it's indeed a musical, based on the classic novel of the same name by Victorian adventure writer H. Rider Haggard.

And from what I have heard so far it should be pretty amazing.  I've seen Clive and Agnieszka twice, playing for the Classic Rock Society and I've tickets for a third gig on 13th October at the Boardwalk in Sheffield.

ok.....

I cant think of  better description than Rock Opera.... I feel that this title is rather over used by some artists which is why I hesitated to use it.
Naturally the schedules are now running a little later, and the deadlines seem impossible, but we are still intending to perform this show on 31st October. Every day we get closer it sounds more exciting.... scenery... projections... choir.... extra musicians.... costume (yes prog fans... costumes!)....
I'm still a little nevous that I'm one of the four main singers.characters in 'She'... I thought it would save me learning all the keyboard parts,..;)
but now I have new problems...learning all those lyrics... wearing a funny costume... and even some basic acting!.... Oh for the safety of the keyboards....

There will be more updates on the web site very soon, announcing the CD and live line up. No Bob Catley is not involved... sadly he didnt have the time.

I believe the release date for both the double CD and thee DVD will be 21st January.
If you want to come to the show in Katowice, dont hang around, the tickts are selling fast, I've been told. Again, we will post some information about nearby hotles etc.

Also... I'm afraid to say that due to this rather crazy schedule of recording (I have barely been outside in three months... except for the odd gig), we wont be playing the Sheffield gig.... sorry about that!

Sorry to hear you won't be in Sheffield, Clive.  Not good news for the CRS.  Hope to catch you in the not too distant future.  In the meantime, I hope all goes well on 31st October.

I would really love to see some friendly faces at this concert. I know its in Poland, but there are planes, trains and buses....

If you go to the Caamora website (www.caamora.net), you can find out much more about the concert... travel... hotels... tickets etc.
http://caamora.net/she-concert.htm

This event is something I've been building towards for about 25 years, so it might be worth checking out...;)

If anyone from this forum does decide to come, please let me know.

Has to be a coincidence. Clive has been thinking about this idea for 25 years and the title and story originate in the novel She bij H. Rider Haggard. The origins of the Stiltskin album also go back a long time (http://www.genesis-fanclub.de/raywilson/kritiken/stiltskin_she_emergence.htm (http://www.genesis-fanclub.de/raywilson/kritiken/stiltskin_she_emergence.htm)) but date later and I don't see any references to the novel.

There's no relation.

But the She of Stiltskin is a nice album. Check it out Nicky, I'm sure you'll like it!

I like your "along the way", Bluey, just like with Ms 007: When she drives into a new town, she completely loses her sense of direction, east becomes west, and north becomes south. Women! They think of s* all the time (that was sewing and stitching, just to make sure you got it right).

Anyway, Bluey, I can see that your digs lie on a straight line between Marshland and Poland, and I don't know whether the Polish loony bins could get Tom up on his feet again.

:P

I usually don't have problems with directions or finding my way (unless in a certain city in Belgium with loads of one way streets and crap road signs - but that's a completely different story!). And unlike a man, if I am not sure where to go, I ask for the right way! ;)

Ah well... I just thought you might want to support the music you like...

Actually, Bluey, I don't even yet know whether I like Caamora. I mean, I'll sure get the album when it comes out, because it's Clive Special, but I'll let myself be surprised by it.

But I don't need to get the last of my few øres stolen in Polen. I'v heard that they're so nimble that they can take the panties off women without the women noticing it.

In Denmark we also joke that when you enter Poland you're met with a sign saying "Welcome to Poland! Your car's already here!"

In fact, I'm already worrying that they'l steal Caamora from Clive.

Yes, we have the same joke here in Germany (in fact, I know a guy who went on holiday in Poland by car and returned by train - no kidding!), but I think things have changed... and even if not - my tip is: wear your oldest clothes and make sure you look like a poor rock fan who hasn't got any spare money, and I bet they'll leave you alone. (It's what my brother does...  ;) )

Guys, come on! (All of you!!) Nobody going there? This can't be true!  :(

No, no samples, she's the singer in a) a rock band, b) an 80s band, c) a Chillout/Smoothpop-whatever band, all of them cover bands. And no, we met each other at school, maaaany years ago :)

Metal Mind productions have posted this announcement (http://www.metalmind.com.pl/index.php?dzial=newsy&more=967) today, including a nice poster in Polish;

24.10.2007 14:38:02 Prog-rock opera "She"

Metal Mind Productions presents "She", The Rock Opera by Caamora. The band will perform "She" on 31st October 2007 at the Wyspianski Theatre, Katowice in Poland.
The musical version of "She" is based on the classic novel of the same name by Victorian adventure writer H. Rider Haggard. Ever since seeing the film version as a child, Clive Nolan (Arena, Pendragon, Neo, Shadowland, Strangers on a Train, Casino etc) has carried this story in his psyche, always intending to create a musical version. Three years ago, his collaboration began with singer Agnieszka Swita, and this marked the beginning Caamora and of their first major project, "She".

The cast for the four main characters looks as follows:

Ayesha - Agnieszka Swita
Leo - Clive Nolan
Holly - Alan Reed (Pallas)
Ustane - Christina Booth (Magenta)

The 'She' Story
Two explorers travel to Africa and stumble into a world of mystery and intrigue. They discover lost tribes living in vast underground caverns and worshipping a living Goddess... 'She who must be obeyed'... Ayesha, the queen who is believed to be a woman of vast age. She welcomes the explorers, but her true motives soon become apparent. Ayesha has been waiting for the return of the man she loves... a man she murdered over 2000 years ago! The story takes us from the shores of Africa, through a vast network of underground cities, and on to a volcano which contains the mysterious fire of eternal life...

The concert will be filmed for the future DVD release which will accompany the 2 CD album, set for release on 21st January 2008. The "She" CD will also feature orchestral and choral material giving this Rock Opera an epic and varied appeal, featuring over two hours of music. The musicians involved in the recording of the "She" CD include: Scott Higham (Shadowkeep) on drums, Mark Westwood (Neo) on guitars, Martin Bowen on guitars, John Jowitt (IQ, Neo) on bass, Richard West (Threshold) on keyboards, Steve Williams (Power Quest) on keyboards. Then there's a horn, Oboe and cello player....

The official premiere of the prog-rock opera "She" is an event on a world-wide scale and it is only at Wyspiański Theater that one will be given a chance to bear witness to the splendour of this incredible show. Stunning stage setting, impressive visuals and, of course, breath-taking music will all make for an unforgettable show. Clive Nolan: "We still don't know exactly how this show will turn out; there are many ideas on the table and things are developing all the time. Whatever happens, it's going to be a terrific event - not to be missed!"

But, as regards this special night at the Theatre, this is not all. Caamora will be supported by two fantastic bands - Pallas and The Oliver Wakeman Band! It's going to be a real treat for fans of progressive rock!

CAAMORA
THE OLIVER WAKEMAN BAND
PALLAS
31.10.07 - Katowice, Teatr im. Wyspiańskiego

Er... couple of points...

First - This information about the show has kind of been on the Caamora website in various guises for months... finger on the pulse kids!...;)
www.Caamora.net

Second - Since the venue is already nearly full, I guess some fans will be there, so no one is letting me down. If you dont see it, then get the DVD... see what you missed.

Third - I think Katowice is potentially more 'Progworld Central' than anywhere in the UK. I love playing in the UK, but frankly its easier to play a gig in Poland with a decent sized audience.

I agree. Katowice is often mentioned when it comes to prog bands.
I do think however, which is a tricky thing to say since i'm not really familiar with the amount of venue's in Poland, that in the U.K. there is more choice of venue's.

But like i said: Maybe i'm wrong.  :D

We have just updated the caamora.net site, and there are a few pictures there.
My head is still spinning from the experience.... it was quite a mountain that we climbed, and I really did choose all the right musicians and singers for the job!
The reaction was truly amazing, and made us all feel pretty emotional.
It was an event, and unlikely to happen in Europe again.... but something might be happening in South America... we shall see.

This is amazing! The stage - the costumes - and of course: the music - wow!!! Guys, you'll never know what we (speaking of all the forum members who weren't there, and yes, I'm including myself) missed... this is something to be seen live; I don't think the DVD can be half as overwhelming as this musical/opera performance must have been! The thing is, JJ, that if we didnt joke around, this joint would go into standby, until Arena had their album around the bend, or until Clive kicked our ass with something, then there'd be a couple of eulogies, and then standby again - and all of us, who like fun, we'd go somewhere else to kid around.

So one has to take that into consideration too  :)

Well, i.a. I offered to pep up the Wikipedia page on Arena. But I didnt get any support for that.

Talking about fun, I think people who go for Arena, and Caamora for that matter, are basically very serious people - re the discussions on Christianity etc. - so this would be people who go places like Wiki, Amazon etc.

Well, personally, I think there are a lot of people around here in a lurking mode, simply because they don't connect with the 'informal nature' of some of the conversations.

I think to spice things up, discussions should be Arena-related, or at least about music again.

Back to Caamora again now: what do you excpect of it?

OK... well, I must admit (shame on me!) that I don't know the title of the songs...  :-[

One of them was Agnieszka (Ayesha) singing - I think that one was the very last track. It's a slow song with a rather sad atmosphere and I think she acts and sings perfectly, her stage performance is so intense that I could almost feel what her character feels in that scene... (well, hope you know what I mean)

The other one featured Alan Reed (Holly) and Clive (Leo); this was a rather up-tempo song and (if you're familiar with the story of "She") marks their decampment for the big adventure. (Hope I got this right - Clive??)

Also worth a mention are the fantastic decorations and costumes - from what I saw, this wasn't just a concert, more a musical or rock opera! And after having seen all these "appetizers" I must say that I can hardly wait for the CD/DVD to be released!!

Well... I think the original release date was the 28th January... but we are still working on the final mixes for the DVD, and various bonus materials, so in reality I would imagine a delay of about a month.
In the meantime I think there will be a single release in a couple of weeks to announce the forthcoming album/DVD releases... So there you have it!

Well, I guess we've been waiting so long that another month won't kill us  ;)  but I'm really looking forward to this release!
So you better make sure the bonus material is worth the additional month of waiting... (for example, will there be the video of "Walk On Water"??)  ;D

Just checked it up at Amazon (of course). They say that it will be released April 15. Further, it's available for pre-order at Amazon.

Dya guys know about any site where one can get it before that ?

Nicky.

Hmm, several Dutch sites (www.nl.bol.com and www.nlstore.nl) claim that the release date is February 28th.  :-\

Weird if Amazon says it's April 15.

edit: the amazon thingy is referring to the EP called Embrace.  ;)

Does anyone know of the box set contains the standard Double CD or the Digipack one with the bonus track? - I'd hate to miss out on the She 'Max' (so to speak...)

Interesting (taken from classic rock society website)

Caamora are at the moment working on a new double album entitled "Journey's End... an acoustic anthology" which should be available before Christmas.

This release will feature over 130 minutes of acoustic live performances from around the world, as well as a selection of never before heard demos, bonus tracks and interview footage.

Before the release of "She" earlier this year, Clive Nolan alongside singer Agnieszka Swita performed a series of global concerts in England, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Poland, Chile, Argentina, Bolivia and Canada.

"Journey's End..." will contain a selection of numbers recorded at these performances. These live tracks also feature some great guest appearances from Mark Westwood (guitar) and Christina Booth (voice), as well as new faces like Claudio Momberg from 'SETI' (keyboards) in Chile and Sebastian Medina from 'William Gray' (guitar) in Argentina.

As well as the live material, there is also a collection of demos that were made over the past few years leading up to 'She'.

These bonus songs include...
'In Aeternum' - a track that was never used in the end
The specially written title song 'Journey's End'
Polish song 'Grunwald', featuring cello from Hugh McDowell (ex ELO)

"Journey's End... an acoustic anthology" is due for release on 10th November in Europe and 25th November in the USA (via MVD).

This very special release will be limited to just 1000 copies.

Full details of the track listing etc. will be posted shortly on their website and MySpace.

Andy
