What are your favorite prog groups at the moment apart from Arena?

OK, guys, new brain strainer. I've listed what seem to me to be the favorite groups of Roomies at the moment, alphabetically, so as not to bias. You'll see that Arena are left out. That's because I want to save you the agony of having to brood over whether Dream Theater or Sylvan just might .., you get the picture. Let's just take it for granted that Arena are surely the most popular group among Roomies.

OK, the rules of the game are that you choose, leaving Arena aside, your fave, second fave, third fave, fourth fave, and fifth fave group from the list below. Just write:

1. 'Groupname1'
2. 'Groupname2'
3. 'Groupname3'
4. 'Groupname4'
5. 'Groupname5'

If there's any group missing, tell me, and I'll put it in.

You can always edit your list, until the final compilation is made, and we'll talk about when that is.

Peter will find a way to process the data and deliver the final result.  ;D

Nicky.

"At the moment" doesn't imply existing or active groups. It just means, which music do we cherish most presently.

I added Pure Reason Revolution to the list. (Guess I better soon get a CD by them. PH is hot on them too.)

Thanks for breaking the ice, Peter. Hope some more people give their votes.

Reconsidering your remark, Peter, I have to agree with you. Mind if I change the subject to "What are your favorite prog groups at the moment apart from Arena?" That's what I want to investigate.

Even is she could be counted, Spock's Beard is always better. And I don't mean musically, but as persons.

Appelmoes, is that because SB are particularly good people or has Lana Lane done or said something that you do not approve of ?

Appelmoes, her Chaos on Flight Of The Migrator was just a role she played, it's not her real nature.

I am surprised that Toto is on the list. Wouldn't call it prog, though their last album certainly has some proggy influences  ;)

Her and Erik said Arjen Lucassen is a cancerous tumour. That's not a nice (or smart) thing people would say, and yes, I really don't approve of that :-\

So apart from the fact they make good music or not. Knowing this made me dislike her and Erik enough to not listen to their music anymore. Just a matter of principals for me.

The other way around would also count. If Arjen would say something like that about one of the people he worked with, that would make me dislike listening to his music. But, I know him enough to know he wouldn't do that.

If it's true that she said that, then it was a terrible thing to say about Arjen Lucassen. (However, it would not have been a wrong thing to say about e.g. bin Laden or Hitler.)

But in such cases, one must really be sure about one's sources. Where do you have it from, Appelmoes?

They played on his albums... Something went wrong? :(

I was just trying to get into their music, but now it makes me wonder... >:(

I think somethink happened when Arjen was playing for them. There was a big discussion about that on this board a long time ago, but I can't remember where to look now.  :-[

Nicky007

Thanks for your votes, Proglady.

I've added Blind Ego and The Reasoning to the list. (I'm really seeing some new names currently.)

I'm surprised that Porcupine Tree are leading so strongly. (Guess I gotta listen more to Blank Planet.) But then again, the heavy rockin' Roomies haven't yet given their votes. I'll betcha that PT will be up against Dream Theater.

Hm, this poll has turned out more exciting than I expected.

Certainly, Helen, any past or present somewhat prog group is allowed. You can see that even Asia and Toto are on the list. I had Floyd there from start, as I will vote for them when my time comes.
