I discovered this band clicking from link to link on Myspace. Listened to samplers, found them very good and promised myself to check out their first LP when it would be released. Well, it's done and, believe me (or not), it's GREAT and should appeal to most neoprog fans. Go and listen/look by yourself : http://thereasoning.com/flash_low.html

The band includes Matthew Cohen (ex-Magenta bass player), the LP is produced by Dave Meegan (who worked with Marillion several times), Steve Rothery is slightly involved (one solo) and John Mitchell is on the booklet thank-you list (but I don't know why  ???).

Enough said ? Oh, well, I could add that if I refer to the drawing in that topic (http://shattered-room.net/index.php?topic=150.0), it seems that they hired PH for the drawings on their website  :D

I had never heard of Touchstone before. Sounds good to my ears : some kind of a lighter (and more subtile ?) version of Threshold.

A gig with them + The Reasoning promises a great night  *horns*

There are (very few ;)) times I wish I could live in Great-Britain ...

Both bands were excellent and it was nice to have a good crowd there to. ;D

Not many comments on this thread which is a surprise since I think this band should appeal big-time to Arena fans. Their debut album "Awakening", was to my mind one of the best albums of 2007. They have a really fresh sound and as well as being great instrumentally the vocal duties are shared between 3 vocalists, iincluding the sublime Rachel Jones (ex-Karnataka) which works really well.

Think Mostly Autumn but 10 times better !!

Their new album "Dark Angel" is due for release in October, that excites me anyway but my anticipation is even greater because our very own John Mitchell is doing the mixing of the album.

Really worth checking out.

Really worth checking out.

I second that emotion.  Perhaps not prog enough for purists, but given that most folk in the 'Room' seem to have broader tastes than that I'd certainly urge an audition.  One of the top albums of 2007 IMHO.  *horns*

Yes, I was surprised too that Awakening didn't get more attention, not in the Room but in the overall prog community. But even Magenta doesn't seem to get much more consideration, which is really a pity  :(

Bupie

OK, I know there's a new album soon to be released (and at least one roomie already has it  ;)) but this message is about Karnataka, the previous band of their female vocalist Rachel Jones.

I heard bits of their music on Youtube and it sounded really good. Close to Mostly Autumn but with a more classic rock / less folk edge. Is it worth checking ? Is their double live CD Strange Behaviour good ? I am sure that the aforementioned roomie  ;) has an opinion about it !

I like 'em, but how much I like 'em depends on my mood.  They're a bit more laid back than most progish bands, so I need to be feeling mellow-going-on-chilled 8)  A fine band, though, and well worth checking out.  Strange Behaviour is arguably their best, and even without the arguments is probably a good place to start. ;) *horns*

NP Touchstone - The City Sleeps

First listen but so far it is very promising. It reminds me of The Reasoning but a better Reasoning (to be confirmed).

Just now, I wanted to check up on both bands you mentioned in the Now Playing Thread (yes, I sometimes do that), and found out that the Reasoning guitarist has been missing since saturday.

"Police are concerned for the safety of a missing man from Cardigan, who was last seen early yesterday morning, Saturday the 10th March 2012. Owain Roberts, 36 years old, is described as a white male, 5ft 10' inches tall and of a slim build with short brown hair and clean shaven. He has 4 earrings in his left ear. He was last seen wearing a black V necked jumper and jeans. He was also in possession of a black hooded top and carrying a grey rucksack. It is believed that after leaving his home in Cardigan yesterday he intended to walk the coastal path, but he hasn't been seen since. Anyone who may have seen Mr Roberts since yesterday morning or has information about his whereabouts is asked to contact Police immediately on 101. (Outside Dyfed-Powys Tel. 01267 222020)"

Can't hurt to post that here, I guess. Don't know the man or the band, but I hope he's safe and all turns out well! :-\

Bad news  :( I hope nothing terrible has happened.

I only know their first album. Funny that I associated them to Touchstone recently on the NP thread : I had totally forgotten my 5 years old comment about the show both bands shared and I also had totally forgotten having listened to Touchstone samplers.

Touchstone's latest has indeed become a favorite of mine : beautiful crossing of female and male vocals, catchy melodies, a blend of classic rock and neo-prog. It could sound too easy listening for some proggers but since you like Kino a lot, I think you could like that one too. Highly recommended.

Iggy

Still no news it is not looking good.  :(
