Today I listened to a playlist on Spotify: "RetroWave/Outrun".
It has Synthwave artists like L.A. Takedown, Code Elektro and Gunship and a lot more.
I don't know any of these artists. In fact, I never knew something like a 'synthwave' genre existed. Apparently it's recent bands (2010-now) doing nostalgic 80's sounds, complete with electronic drums, synthesizer bass etc. Pretty cool if that's something you're looking for.

Also listened to Perfect Beings' "Vier", which is really a work of art. Very clever things are happening here!
And Lo Moon which perfectly fits in the 80's feel that I like.

did you notice any differences?
Yes, some minor differences with instruments and some (harmony) vocals. Sound is crystal clear, but the sound of the original album was already great.

I also heard some minor changes. Nothing spectacular. I'd say, don't buy it if you expect big differences. There's nothing wrong with the original indeed. So why did I buy it then, you might ask?
Because of the instrumental mixes of course! 8)
Every remaster needs a disc of instrumental mixes. You hear me Arena??! ;D

Cool! What do you make of this album? I think it's really good! Catchy stuff.

That reminds me. Did you hear the new Damanek album? I just checked and it's on Spotify now.
I bought the album, because, you know, I really like the artwork of this one.

Last saturday was the Damanek/Southern Empire gig and I sadly couldn't make it :( because I was expected to show up on my own birthday party.
Hopefully there will be another opportunity. :)

Previously played:
Kino - "Radio Voltaire"
I like it better than earlier. Man, I was so hyped for this album and I already lowered my expectations a lot, but was still disappointed. I said that I would be more than satisfied if "Radio Voltaire" would be half as good as "Picture". In my opinion it isn't half as good as "Picture". But now I realised that it is like saying that you'll be more than satisfied when you get a car that drives half as fast as a McLaren: it's still too fast.
Now that I got past the 'more than satisfied' thing, I am satisfied in the end. It's a good album! :) We'll see where it ends on the 2018 top ten list.

Now playing:
Lunatic Soul - "Under The Fragmented Sky"
What an interesting album!
Of course I already have this one for quite some time, but today I wanted to extract three or four representative songs from the album for some sort of "Best of 2018" playlist. (Yes, I know I am such a geek...)
This might be the darkest sounding album of the year. It's like a moody soundtrack for a Blade Runner kind of movie. That's because there are so many cool synth sounds and even some Asian sounding bits and pieces. It also perfectly fits with my recent discovery of the Synthwave genre. It's very electronic and mostly instrumental. There are only two songs with lyrics. The first one sadly takes me out of the otherwise beautiful instrumental experience. It doesn't really seem to fit there. The second one almost feels like the end credits to a Sci-Fi movie because it's the last song. And above that, it's simply a good song.

Oh, and I ended up with five songs. 8)

Not yet, couldn't find it. Now I know it's on Spotify, I will definitely give it a listen. Thanks.

Galahad - "Seas Of Change"

There's a lot to like here, I can hear it! But for some reason it simply doesn't click with me. Oh it's so frustrating!! I think I rather focus on music that does click with me... :(

Now listening to:
Roine Stolt - "The Flower King: Manifesto Of An Alchemist" (third listen on Spotify)

Yeah, I like this!
But where would you guys order this on your shelf? Under 'F' for 'Flower Kings', or under 'S' for 'Stolt'? What is it? A Flower Kings album? A Roine Stolt album? A 'Roine Stolt's The Flower King' album? Not sure.
Anyway, it's really good! I'll attend the gig in Zoetermeer (co-headline with Spock's Beard)

I don't order it at all.
I have too many cd's so each time I get a new one, I keep changing the shelf. Too much work.

Ah... the chaos.  :o ;D

Yesterday I listened to:
Spock's Beard - "Noise Floor"
This is a really good album. It's very much Spock's Beard. (I think it's much better than "The Oblivion Particle" which felt a bit uneven to me.)
"Noise Floor" has a constant high level, which makes it hard to point out favourites I guess. To me, as an album, it's the best of the three with Ted on vocals.
Last Saturday, I saw them live in De Boerderij, Zoetermeer, along with The Flower Kings. A fantastic experience (although it was a bit too crowded for this introvert).

At the moment I listen to:
Subsignal - "La Muerta"
What a fun album! This is of the same level as "Paraíso" for me. (Time to revisit that one as well!) Is it strange to say that musically they are somewhere between Threshold and It Bites? Oh, and Arno Menses is a really good singer.

Yeah, top-3 2018 release for me  *horns* 8). Paraíso is also my favourite Subsignal album, but this one is coming close 8). Good comparison I'd say :D. Really want to see them live one day!

Argos - "Unidentified Dying Objects"

Second listen today. Yes, had to start early. But starting the day early with Argos is no punishment. This album is a real discovery for me. It might not be the best album of this year (or maybe it is!), but it certainly is the best discovery of a new (to me) band. Soup is a very good second, by the way.
