Then it's indeed an advantage that I didn't know the original :). Well, I'll check out the original. But the question remains: doesn't he have enough inspiration to write a full album himself?

"The low spark..." is the Traffic cover I was talking about  ;) You should check the original version.

I still love the Sean Filkins War and Peace and thanks to you guys I am enjoying Imperial from Soen.

This week been listening to alot of Gazpacho (Tick Tock, Fireworker), Pink Floyd (Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, Atom Heart Mother, Final Cut and The Wall), Genesis (Selling England By The Pound, Lamb Lies Down On broadway), Porcupine Tree ( The Incident, Deadwing, Fear Of a Blank Planet and Sky Moves Sideways), Yes (Close to the Edge, Talk, Big Generator and the epic Going For The One) and Transatlantic (both versions of The Absolute Universe) a pretty good week!
Good choices Iggy. The only band you mention I dislike is Yes. I can only bear 'Owner Of A Lonely heart'. I find the rest nervous and maybe too difficult for me  :-\. Yeah, Soen is being played often here, what an album *horns*.

pp: Steve Lukather - I Found The Sun Again
np: Evergrey - Escape of the Phoenix (also released yesterday, a bit too heavy for my taste ...)

Hi Teunis, after two listens, not impressed neither unfortunately. 8 songs, including 3 covers, and no stand-out, even if the Traffic cover is well worth the listen for people who never heard the original since it's a great song!

Singing and musicianship can't be faulted but the inspiration is sparce. I don't dislike it and maybe it will grow on me but I would not recommend it to anyone at this point.
Played it again today and totally agree. Current favourite is the long one 'The Low Spark As High Heeled Boys'. I don't know any of the songs, I've heard there are 3 covers, but I have no idea which songs. Haven't read the booklet yet ;D.

Yeah, sometimes you find gems very late, but never too late ;). I remember playing the first two albums and I liked them, but I don't play them anymore. The albums after that are a bit too 'poppy'. Steven Wilson has less influence nowadays I've read and you hear that, less quallity. Will play the first two albums again.

OK, I am digging this one out...

I was on Amazon Music listening to whatever album while reading/working and when the album ended a playlist started on its own. After a few nice songs, mostly melodic prog (Saga, Neal Morse...), an incredibly catchy tune starts. I stop reading and have a look at the title/band : "Oxigen" by Blackfield. Blackfield, I remember, is one of the numerous Steven Wilson projects but I had never checked it, not one album or even song. The song comes from Open Mind, a best of of their first five albums at the time. So I listen to that album in full and I am pretty much blown away. It reminds me of some of the catchiest Porcupine Tree songs  (Lazarus obviously but also Trains or The Sound of Muzak).

It's never to late to discover a great band I guess  :)

As a Toto fan I bought the solo album from Steve Lukather 'I Found The Sun Again' on the release day. He and his friend and fellow band member Joseph Williams both released their solo albums today. I wanted to listen to the latter one first before buying. I have listened once to both albums. Have to listen more often, was not impressed at first listening ...
