Bupie, you remember "I'm just a singer in a rock'n'roll band" ?
Frankly ? No but I was 7 when it was first released so ...  :)

For my generation, it was more "And then the man, he steps right up to the microphone"  ;)

Guess I was 17 then ;)

It was 1972 ... whew man !

I clearly remember when Seventh Sojourn came out - it was a bomb! Today it sounds like polished pop rock - just like the Beatles albums - but at the time it was real heavy, and then there was melody, pulse and all. It was my fave album for a while. I and my friend Rune played it to death.

I'm Just A Singer is arguably the heaviest song by the Moodies. It still sounds fabulous  *horns*

www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_J-hmyAS6c

Note their singing style, it's very special, I can't recognise it from any other group 8)

As you say, Matt, Dylan is legendary - bigger than life ! So you don't gauge him with ordinary human measures ;)

I never listened to more from Dylan than what happened to come up on the radio while driving a car, and usually always changed stations right away. The guy might be a philosopher of some sort, but musically? Basically it isn't my taste what he plays, but adding his voice, I ask myself why anyone bought his records. Street musician stuff.

I know these songs well. My dad had a Bob Dylan period a few years back. It's not really bad. But I'm on Peter's side on this. 'Street musician stuff'. Sounds a bit harsh, but I agree that it seems pointless to buy a record since most of his songs are much alike. I don't really care much whether he is a great singer or not, I think that's not really what matters. The music is more important (or else we could just as well read poetry). And I don't really like his music. Yet I recognise his importance in the evolution of music in general. But not specifically prog.

It's alright if you want to like it Nicky.

Arcane Roots -> Prog Pantheon

Amazing, they got it right on first shot *horns*

There's simply everything on Blood & Chemistry: melody, rhythm, excellent instrumentals, singing, lotta vocal harmony, djent when it gets too sweet, great variation and balance - super 8)

Reminds me of Tesseract, Periphery, Mars Volta (also in the vocals) - great cocktail :)

Thanx again, Cap :)

Don't even know how you are with this album

Give ya guys Triptych again:

Arcane Roots:  Triptych   www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-DLaueRF2M

"But as the doctor came around,
No one dared to make a sound.
The architecture, gave up the sects and it made no sense at all.
So when the arcs had run aground,
And the visitors allowed.
We gave conjecture, one by one and it made no sense at all."

And here's the full album Blood & Chemistry. Worth a listen or two, guys ;)

Tangerine Dream -> Prog Pantheon

Edgar & Co. are simply formidable *horns*

At the moment it's only the albums Underwater Sunlight & The Electric Mandarine Tour, but there definitely will be more comin on. I might have to start a sub-PP on TD ;)

Here it's Jonny M who I have to thank - for this and infinite more :)

Secret between you and me: Bal-Sagoth is everything that I am.

Added Winger to my pantheon *horns*

Usually when I have three songs in my classic songs list, particularly from one album, it's time to consider whether I may have identified a pantheon group ;)

That's what happened here. The album is Karma - super 8)

Also added Vintersorg's Orkan to my pantheon. I already had Mr. V there cuz of his fabulous The Focusing Blur, where he plays with popular ideas about nuclear physics and relativity - fun for me as a trained physicist - and covers all genres convincingly.

Just inducted Trevor Rabin into my Prog Pantheon. I consider his Can't Look Away a masterpiece. + Yes' Talk, which is very much his album *horns*

Four of the songs on Can't Look Away found their way to my Classic Songs list 8)

Great musician. Gonna get some more of his solo albums asap .... :)

Don't know anything from his solo-stuff but his work with Yes is outstanding.
I even like the Rabin-era better than the Howe-era.

Paxi, I deliberately didn't write: "classic Yes albums: Going, Ladder, Fly". I didn't want to set Mad onto Topographic; that would probably only confirm his present priorities ;)

I expect that Bupie will be happy to hear that I have added Blind Guardian to my Pantheon *horns*

A Night At The Opera is absolutely glorious!

And I like Imaginations From The Other Side too a lot.

Gotta get some more albums by this amazing band .....

I also added Slash. His Apocalyptic Love, with Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators, is superb *horns*

And Charred Walls of the Damned, with Tim Ripper Owens (nuff said), Richard Christy as main songwriter and on drums (Death, Iced Earth), Jason Suecof (producer and guitarist on a wealth of albums), and Steve DiGiorgio on bass (Death, Testament, Vintersorg, Iced Earth) - a stellar constellation *horns*

Yup, Paxi, there are many Gods in my Pantheon ;)

I thought you were a good Christian, Paxi ;)

Well, guess I'm a hopeless music geek :-[

Added Slayer and Morbid Angel to my Pantheon. With Bal-Sagoth I'v gotten more into extreme metal *horns*

But there's a lot more to Sagoth ;)

Slayer raised the aggression and intensity from Metallica. MA raised the bar even further.

Already MA's debut Altars Of Madness is a masterpiece, musically and lyrically, real challenging and gratifying *horns*

Slayer don't grip me quite as much, and I find them a bit much anti-Christian, but they have an important historical role, so they get to be Pantheon 8)

I will follow Slayer's and MA's catalog from Reign In Blood and Altars on .... :)
