For a time I was doubting whether I should buy this or not to be honest.
I don't have the "Rapture" DVD either and that was mainly because of my disappointment with "The Seventh Degree...": the setlist is more or less build around that album. And then a couple of songs that were already on "Caught In The Act" and "Smoke & Mirrors" and a few 'new' ones which are not really the best in my book: Ghost In The Firewall
, The Eyes Of Lara Moon
and Valley Of The Kings
(OK, that one IS a good one!)
When I look at the setlist of "XX", there are the same old songs again. (Don't Forget To) Breathe
and A Crack In The Ice
and it seems that Bedlam Fayre
is also becoming a stock song. And although there are some very good songs on "Contagion", Arena chooses to put the instrumental Riding The Tide
and the a capella City Of Lanterns
(again) on it instead. It would have been nice to have Painted Man
or one of the Contagion EP's on it (would also have been a nice promotion for Contagion Max).
In my opinion they should totally drop the eternal Crying For Help VII
and try something else for an encore. This is getting silly. Some possible contenders: Welcome To The Cage
, Running From Damascus
, or bring back the old Jericho
Phew... Sorry, I'm sounding like a bitter fan here.
You all know that I LOVE Arena! Their latest album is one of the best! And I think I'll pick up this DVD anyway, because from the videos, I can see that musicianship is top notch again! And I'm really looking forward to seeing/hearing Moviedrome played live.
