Wetton-Downes - Icon.
I'm on track 5, never having listened to the CD before, and I'm already in seventh heaven...!

This is 'kin phenomenal.

It's giving me the same feeling that I had, when I first heard Asia's debut LP.
Believe the adverts and the hype.
It really is Asia.

Where have the last 20 to 25 years gone...?

Right at this minute, I really don't care.
It's been worth the wait.

Finally mustered to put on Dream Theater - Octavarium, after having it in the house for more than two weeks. Just got through song number 2, and the reaction is: My GOD, this album sucks! And I was a devoted fan, once...

IQ - Dark Matter

Borrowed from a friend. Yesterday I heard it for the first time, it was love at first hearing. He said 'if you like it, you can have it'. I'll let him know that he won't see the album again! The style of music can be compared with Arena IMO. Versatile music with great synthesizer solos.

Teunis,

Is that your first exposure to IQ? If so, grab "Subterranea" and "The Seventh House." If you like Arena, I think you'll like those two as much if not more than "Dark Matter."  "Ever" is pretty good, too. Stay away from the first one "Tales from the Lush Attic" unless you can get it really cheap. The second one is somewhat better but not all that good. Frankly, I'm surprised they had a contract after those first two albums. Thank goodness they stuck with it and turned into a really good band. There are a couple of others with a different singer. I'm not familiar with them, but I'm told they experimented with a more "pop" sound for a couple of albums.

IQ are a great band. Agree that the earlier albums aren't as good but they were good albums if you were around at the time  ;) . Obviously, bands improve as do recording techniques and the current/later albums are indeed stunning. The two 'middle' albums "Are You Sitting Comfortably" and "Nomzamo" are both very listenable, but as you say, erring slightly (only slightly mind  :) ) on the poppier side. Buy and enjoy  ;D
